absolute value

In this lesson, students learn how to represent simple inequalities and equations on number lines, how to solve one-step addition and multiplication equations, and how to set up addition and multiplication equations that represent word problem situations. Students are encouraged to use reasoning and looking at structure (e.g., properties) to discern the meaning of equations and inequalities in order to determine unknowns.

Interactive

The lesson begins with an interactive instructional introduction. Sal the Lizard catches only blue flies. Your job is to write inequalities and equations that represent where the blue fly is in relation to the black fly.

The first two scenes are narrated, and there are 10 different scenes in all. Note that Sal does nothing when answers are incorrect.
